Zoltan Toman was the Czech Deputy Minister of the Interior from ‘45-48.

He is credited with saving over 200,000 Jewish refugees, most survivors of the Holocaust from the treacherous environment in post-war Poland. He is also credited with helping Israel secure Czech weapons used to fight the 1948 War of Independence.

"He was like two sides of a coin, one good, and one bad," said Andrei Trojan, Czech director of the feature film “Toman.” According to Trojan, Toman was a gangster and a thief. But for those helped by him, Toman was an important figure even if they never knew he was the man who pulled the strings that allowed them to leave Poland.”
